L’Esprit was founded in Harbor Springs by Ed and Diana Throckmorton with a shared love for French country antiques and the warmth of Provence. The store quickly became known for its thoughtfully curated European antiques and furnishings — pieces that brought character, history, and effortless beauty into Michigan homes.

Over time, L’Esprit evolved while staying true to its roots. In 2010, the business expanded with the addition of Elle Boutique, introducing women’s clothing, accessories, and jewelry. What began as a small extension of the brand has grown into an important part of L’Esprit’s identity. Each year, the women’s boutique continues to expand, offering timeless yet current pieces that reflect the relaxed, refined lifestyle L’Esprit represents.

Diana's vision and aesthetic remain an essential part of the store’s foundation and direction.

Today, L’Esprit + elle is co-owned by Renee Graham, who has been part of the business since 1995. With decades of experience and a deep understanding of the brand, Renee helps guide L’Esprit’s continued growth and expansion.

Renee’s daughters, Caroline and Laura, have also joined the next chapter of L’Esprit + elle. They support the business through social media, website development, and staying closely connected to evolving fashion trends — helping the women’s boutique remain fresh and inspiring for a new generation of customers.

While honoring its French antique beginnings, L’Esprit + elle continues to grow as a destination for both distinctive home pieces and a thoughtfully curated women’s boutique.
